Hardee Help Center Receives More Than a Ton of Food in Postal Drive

 

For over two decades, the U.S. Postal Service has joined the National Association of Letter Carriers to help “Stamp Out Hunger in America.” Both came together to conduct the 27th annual food drive on May 11th.  Local residents answered the call, setting out bags of non-perishables for collection.

The Hardee Help Center, a ministry of the Hardee County Ministerial Association, was one of the recipients of the food collected in Hardee County, along with several other food pantries. This year, the center received 2,060 pounds through the Wauchula Post Office and 443 pounds from the Bowling Green Post Office. An additional 259 pounds was dropped off at the center, bringing the total received to 2,762 pounds.

Once the food was collected, volunteers were scheduled to help load, unload and sort the food. This year the Hardee Help Center had 62 volunteers who donated over 73 hours of time.

The postal employees, the volunteers, and the following groups and organizations greatly contributed to the success of this year’s NALC food drive for the Hardee Help Center: Wauchula Post Office, Bowling Green Post Office, Chapman Fruit Company, Oak Grove Baptist Church, the Heartland Association of Realtors, Wauchula State Bank, the Herald-Advocate, Hardee Hot Shots 4-H, Bowling Green Scouts Pack 875, and Wauchula Scouts Troop 813.
